Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provides knowledge and skills to enhance prospects, career options and prosperity.
The system supports Libya’s next generation of learners – including the creators, the makers, the designers, the engineers, the fixers – and prepares people for the jobs of the future.
Better TVET is part of a better Libya:
- It gives young men and women from all backgrounds an opportunity to reach their potential with fulfilling careers and lifelong learning.
- It supplies businesses with a skilled and productive workforce to enhance growth.
- It is a pathway to national recovery and renewal.
About the Project
Libya Almaharat ‘Land of Skills’ is a new TVET project funded by the European Union. It is delivered by the British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education (MoTVE) as well as social partners, employers and workers’ representatives.
The Project aims to equip people with a high standard of education and training which meets the needs of the labour market directly.
Libya Almaharat works with partners in four regional clusters to deliver to the following priorities:
- Strengthen leadership capacity to drive reform in training institutes;
- Raise the skill levels of teachers and instructors to support learners;
- Improve collaboration between education and business;
- Provide careers information, advice and guidance to students, graduates and the unemployed;
- Ensure that TVET reform is inclusive and benefits both men and women.
Libya Almaharat works in close partnership with Libyan partners including:
- 12 Intermediate Institutes selected as potential Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to drive reform.
- Ministries, governmental organisations and officials involved in vocational education policy including the Ministries of TVE & Education (MoTVE) and the Ministry of Labour.
- Employers, business owners, trade unions, self-employed and entrepreneurs.
- Civil Society Organisations.
