Following the successes in Phase 1, Linataawan Phase 2 marks a new chapter in supporting Libya’s civil society organizations (CSOs) and their partners. This next phase aims to build on the foundation laid in the first phase by focusing on strategic capacity building, stronger partnerships, and innovative grant making, all to ensure sustainable and impactful change across the country.
What We Achieved in Phase 1:
From 2019 to 2023, Linataawan helped enhance the technical and organizational capacities of over 70 CSOs across Libya. Through tailored training, 56 CSOs received grants for initiatives that promoted youth, women empowerment, and local development.
The project established Resource Centres in Tripoli and Benghazi, supporting over 200 CSOs with training, networking, and co-working spaces. An online platform launched in July 2023 expanded these services to a wider audience, attracting 53 CSOs and nearly 4,000 visitors by August 2023.
Linataawan focused on inclusivity, supporting projects aimed at women, youth, and marginalized groups, such as people with disabilities. The project reached a broad geographic area, ensuring support for the south, west and east of Libya.
What’s New in Phase 2
Phase 2 builds on these achievements with a deeper focus on capacity building, grant-making, and partnerships. This phase introduces new activities designed to ensure that Libyan CSOs and their partners are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to thrive in a dynamic environment.
1- Strengthening CSOs’ Capacity and Impact
We’ll continue to focus on improving the ability of CSOs to deliver effective programs that make a real difference. Key activities include:
- Expanding Resource Centres in new locations across Libya.
- Providing tailored workshops, advanced training, and mentorship to address community challenges.
- Supporting CSOs with small grants and resources to implement impactful projects.
- Offering technical expertise to enhance project management and sustainability.
2- Promoting Civic Engagement and Strengthening Local Governance
We’re working to increase citizen involvement in local governance and ensure that CSOs are recognized as partners in public service delivery. Key activities include:
- Encouraging more citizens to actively engage in local governance through campaigns and dialogue platforms.
- Strengthening partnerships between CSOs and local authorities to ensure citizens' voices are heard in decision-making.
- Supporting community-driven projects focused on local development, including municipal service improvements and environmental sustainability.
What We Aim to Achieve in Phase 2
- Strengthen the capacity of CSOs to improve service delivery and advocacy.
- Increase citizen engagement in local decision-making and raise awareness about the role of CSOs.
- Support collaboration between CSOs and local authorities to implement initiatives that directly benefit communities.
